|
In 2011, yearly activities of BASIS started with its mega event - BASIS SoftExpo2011. This year, over 110 BASIS member companies took part at the event. Co-organizers of the expo were Ministry of Science & ICT and Access to Information (A2I) Program under Prime Minister's Office. A series of events and programs were held during and around SoftExpo. The preparation of SoftExpo began at the end of 2010. |

BASIS organized a Press Conference in the city's Sonargaon Hotel on January 30, 2011. Media people were briefed on the highlights and programs of the expo. The sponsors were introduced during the press conference. GPIT was the Platinum Sponsor, while REVE Systems was the Gold Sponsor. BRAC Bank, Microsoft and ICT Business Promotion Council were co-sponsors of the expo.

BASIS Softexpo 2011 was held from February 1-5, 2011 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, Agargaon, Dhaka.
With the theme 'Digital Bangladesh in Action', SoftExpo-2011 was formally inaugurated by Hon'ble Finance Minister Mr. Abul Maal Abdul Muhith as Chief Guest on 1st February 2011. Mr. Muhammad Faruk Khan, MP, Hon'ble Minister, Ministry of Commerce and Architect Yeafesh Osman, Hon'ble State Minister, Ministry of Science and ICT were present as Special Guest. Among others, Mr. Nazrul Islam Khan, Project Director, A2I Project, Mr. Kazi Islam, CEO, Grameen Phone IT, Mr. Fahim Mashroor, Convener, BASIS Softexpo 2011 and Mr. Forkan Bin Quasem, Secretary General, BASIS spoke on the occasion. Mr. Mahboob Zaman, President, BASIS presided over the inauguration session.
A total of 110 local IT companies showcased their latest products, services and emerging technologies during the carnival alongside 10 renowned foreign companies from Europe participated in the expo. Around 25,000 people reportedly visited the expo that was organized this year for the first time in seven zones - Business Software zone, e-Commerce zone, e-Governance zone, Communication zone, Mobile Application zone, Multimedia & Animation zone and Outsourcing zone. The gala ICT event featured in different kinds of exhibitors including the software and ITES companies, e-Governance solution providers, mobile content and application developers, communication solution providers, e-commerce portals, ICT training institutes and outsourcing companies.

|
A discussion session on National Strategy for building skill base for global IT service market was held on February 2, 2011 at BICC, Agargaon, Dhaka. Mr. AKM Fahim Mashroor, Sr. Vice President, BASIS presented the keynote paper at the session. Mr. Rashed Khan Menon, MP, Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Education was the Chief Guest of the session.

BASIS and A2I jointly organized a seminar on Telecom for Common Man and ICT Industry on February 2, 2011. Mr. Hasanul Haque Inu, Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Posts and Telecommunication was present at the seminar as Chief Guest. Mr. Anir Chowdhury, Policy Adviser, A2I Project was delivered his speech as keynote speaker.

A Seminar on Business Linkages for Exploring Outsourcing IT and ITES to EU was jointly organized by DCCI and BASIS which was held on February 2, 2011. Drs. C.S.M. Beemsterboer, Ambassador, HE the Ambassador of the The Royal Netherlands Embassy, Dhaka was present as Chief Guest. Among others DCCI President Mr. Asif Ibrahim, BASIS President Mr. Mahboob Zaman, CBI Consultant Mr. Paul Tija, Mr. Martin Labbe also spoke in the seminar as speaker.

A seminar on Electronic & Mobile Payment: Implementation Challenges was held on February 4, 2011. Mr. Ziaul Hasan Siddiqui, Deputy Governor, Bangladesh Bank was present at the seminar as Cheif guest. Mr. Firoz Alam, Head of Retail Banking of Brac Bank gave the key-note presentation.

| International Matchmaking at BASIS SoftExpo 2011 |

International Business Matchmaking sessions were organized during the BASIS SoftExpo 2011. Ten companies (having plan to outsource to Bangladesh companies) from Europe took part in the session. Over 30 BASIS member companies participated at the match making meetings.

| IT Job Fair at BASIS SoftExpo 2011 |
|
BASIS arranged IT job fair on the occasion of BASIS SoftExpo 2011. The job fair is arranged with the objective of creating suitable employment opportunities for IT professionals at the BASIS member companies. Over 20 BASIS member companies took part at the IT job fair. CVs have been short-listed by respective companies and Face-to Face Interviews were arranged at Expo Venue on February 4, 2011 for the short-listed candidates.

| Award Night of BASIS SoftExpo2011 |

BASIS arranged a colorful award program on Feb 4, 2011. Different awards were handed over to recipients. BASIS started a number of competition and contests (programming contest titled 'Code Warriors' Challenge, BASIS Freelancer Award and IT innovation Search Award) for young IT graduates and students before SoftExpo. The winners of those programs were announced and they were awarded at the program. At the same time, BASIS awarded few individuals and organizations for their significant contribution for IT industry.
Popular Bengali keyboard software AVRO received 'Special Contribution Award' from BASIS for its role in popularizing Bengali typing in web.
BASIS honored late Ashrafuzzaman Tuhin (an active BASIS member who died in 2010 at the age of 45) for his contribution in the development of Graphic Design Industry in Bangladesh (He had contributed significantly by creating large number of employment for youth in export oriented graphic service industry. He also had contributed in different activities of BASIS). He was awarded (posthumous) BASIS Special Contribution Award. Family members of Late Ashrafuzzaman Tuhin received the award.
Bangladesh Bank, the central bank of the country, was awarded 'BASIS Digital Championship Award-2011' for its leadership roles in different payment automation initiatives . For the first time, BASIS has announced such award. The award was handed over to Bangladesh Bank delegation led by its Deputy Governor Ziaul Hasan Siddiqui at the Award night.
BASIS has given 'Lifetime Achievement Award' for 2011 to eminent IT personality Mr. Mustafa Jabbar for his contribution for the ICT industry in the country and his pioneering role for use of Bengali in Computer through 'Bijoy'. Mustafa Jabbar is also a founding member of BASIS and currently the President of Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS). Mr. H T Imam, Advisor to Prime Minister, handed over the Lifetime Achievement Award to Mr. Mustafa Jabbar.
